The new oncology wing of the Basra Children’s Hospital is now officially operational: a project signed by Progetti Plant, and today the first public center in Iraq to offer comprehensive pediatric nuclear medicine services.
Two inauguration ceremonies were held in October: the first attended by the Iraqi Minister of Oil, and the second with the participation of the Italian Ambassador to Iraq. Both chose to attend to highlight the strategic and symbolic importance of this new center.
After designing and delivering the entire complex, from structural construction to equipment installation, Progetti Plant has launched a two-year Operation & Maintenance contract with the Basra Oil Company (BOC).
The program also includes providing expat doctors and nurses dedicated to training local staff, ensuring the project’s full technical and clinical sustainability.
The new department houses a cyclotron for radioisotope production and a high-tech radiopharmacy laboratory, supported by an integrated PET/CT system.
Its operational capacity is estimated at over 7,000 exams per year, expected to significantly improve early diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancers in southern Iraq.
A project that brings together engineering, medicine, and international cooperation, one we are proud to be part of.
